Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day - Thursday, 11/14In 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges
stepped into the history books and became a national icon for the civil rights movement when she, a young African American girl, participated in the integration of an elementary school in New Orleans. Today, at the urging of elementary school children, the California State Legislature recognizes November 14 as "Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day" to commemorate that historic event and honor Ruby's courage and bravery.
